Introduction
One of the first questions many new practitioners ask is:
“What kind of witch am I?”
It is an understandable question. After all, the internet is filled with quizzes, social media posts and videos encouraging people to choose a label as quickly as possible.
The truth, however, is far simpler.
You do not need to decide what type of witch you are before you begin.
In fact, many experienced practitioners never choose a single label at all.
Some spend years exploring different traditions before finding one that feels like home. Others draw inspiration from several paths, creating a practice that reflects their own beliefs, experiences and connection to the world around them.
Labels can be useful as a way of describing interests or areas of study, but they should never become limitations.
Think of them as signposts rather than destinations.
Throughout this chapter we’ll explore some of the best-known paths within modern witchcraft. Remember that these descriptions are broad, and many practitioners may identify with several of them at once.
